Blogging with Wordpress

Well that’s the last time I ever do that.

I’ve spent the better part of my week redesigning SEO’Brien in WordPress after being convinced of its superiority as a blogging platform. Why? Might you ask. The site looks better doesn’t it? Cleaner and much more aesthetically pleasing. I hope you like it. Besides, it gave me the opportunity to include a few new features:

Improved categorization

Comment subscription by Email or RSS

An industry events calendar

Translations in 12 different languages

Related posts to clue you in to other material

Technorati tags to introduce more

If you are on the fence yourself (That is, a Blogger user thinking about a move), consider the following:

As open source, WordPress is constantly evolving, keeping pace with emerging technologies.

Plugins and sidebar widgets available through WordPress are spawning like rabbits giving you an endless library of applets, scripts, and gadgets to include in your blog such as reporting and customized meta content.

WP’s category structure is optimized for natural search creating a directory hierarchy engines prefer (Blogger’s Labels caused me nothing but trouble!).

Easily create static pages to supplement your blog. Here’s one about me

Publish posts with future date and time stamps to release at that time.

No “Blogger” bar at the top of the blog!

You own your content (If Blogger/Google closes your account, your blog is gone - I had that happen)

A word of caution, to really benefit from the assets WordPress has over Blogger, you should have some rudimentary html experience and an understanding of server file structures. The days I’ve spent moving my blog were overwhelmed with: Copying over each post, customizing the templates (html), and setting up 301 redirects (server structure).
