I admit it. Early in my blog I made the claim that Stumble Upon was worthy of your attention!

So okay, I still believe that but new data from AddThis, a social bookmarking tool, reveals that Google Bookmarks is more popular than I had believed.

Social bookmarking is a form of Social Media Optimization. In really no way similar to Search Engine Optimization, SMO is the practice of making it easy for your audience to bookmark, save, and share your content. It has been suggested that social bookmarking sites are being accounted for in search algorithms as an indicator of popularity so while very different from SEO, one may support the other.

So are your priorities straight? Are you even engaged in SMO for your site, adding bookmark links to del.icio.us, digg, and Yahoo! MyWeb? Did you overlook perhaps the best opportunity to get started? Check out AddThis which created a single button which makes it easy for your audience to bookmark your website, business, or blog, and subscribe to your feeds.
Did you realize the Windows Live reader was so big?

Oh, and, Add This

[...] That’s the search engine optimization and social marketing optimization goodness built in to sites like Wikipedia and into millions of blogs - and yet is somehow missing or more difficult to implement in many “enterprise” web sites that would benefit most from them.
